Fuel Smarter, Play Stronger
Sports Nutrition for Female Athletes Ages 11 to 18
Young female athletes hear a lot about food, and most of it is noise: fad diets, calorie counting, and advice that was never meant for a growing body in sport. herTRAINER's Fuel pillar replaces that with simple, science-informed guidance built for girls ages 11 to 18. All of our Fuel content is reviewed by Maggy Doherty, a registered dietitian nutritionist and former college athlete, so you can trust that what you are learning is safe and sound.
What should a teen athlete eat before a game or practice?
The right pre-game fuel gives you steady energy without weighing you down. herTRAINER teaches the simple framework: a balance of carbohydrates for energy, some protein, and easy-to-digest foods timed around your activity. Inside the app you will find pre-game meal and snack ideas built around real, familiar foods, not complicated recipes or anything you have to special-order.
How do athletes recover and stay hydrated?
Recovery is where you actually get stronger. herTRAINER covers the basics that make the biggest difference: refueling after practice, simple recovery snacks, and hydration habits that keep your energy and focus up through a long school and sports day. Our free hydration challenge is one of the easiest ways to start feeling the difference fast.
Simple, realistic recipes and snacks
Eating for performance should be easy. herTRAINER's recipe library is full of quick, familiar options a busy teenager will actually make: protein smoothies, wraps, rice bowls, quesadillas, yogurt parfaits, and snacks that travel to practice. Most take under 20 minutes and use six to eight everyday ingredients.
Fuel, not dieting
This is the heart of herTRAINER: food is fuel, not calories to fear. We focus on eating to perform, recover, and feel strong, with zero diet talk, shame, or restriction. For young female athletes, building a healthy relationship with food early matters just as much as any single meal.
